CECCO MARINIELLO: THE 2012 ARTIST FOR THE BURGO CALENDAR
Painter and illustrator Cecco Mariniello is the author of the Burgo Group 2012 calendar.
The six oil paintings made exclusively for the calendar portray a surrealistic impression of time, where immutable female non-protagonist characters paradoxically depict an out-of-time and metaphysical dimension.
As remarked by the journalist Domenico Rosa (Sole24Ore) during the press conference, the subdivision of space in theatrical wings creates a scansion of the perspective, recalling the more typical scansion of time of a calendar; the perspective becomes a year-time and its backstage the relevant days and months. A more intimate dimension which evokes a slower sense of time and is more disposed to meditation, as portrayed by the young women absorbed in reading a book, the underlying delicate theme of the six paintings.
Mariniello's calendar continues the Group's consolidated tradition of commissioning the images for its calendars from the most celebrated illustrators of the day: Moebius, Griffa, Muñoz, Loustal and Pericoli to mention just the most recent. The latest calendar differs from past editions for the technique chosen by the artist, namely oil and not the water colour or wash drawings used previously. The calendar's format is also different, a square unit that sets the calendar months alongside the images.
The Burgo Group calendar is printed on satin-finish Respecta 100 paper, an FSC® recycled credit certified coated paper for quality printing manufactured with 100% recycled fibre content, The cover is printed on Prisma Silk 2SC, an FSC® mixed credit certified coated board of pure cellulose.
